BETTINA AND JOHN ARUNDELL

As his mother, I shall always have an enormous gap in my life where Roland has been a close, loving and treasured son. His great joy in living has inspired other people and his helpful nature has ensured many will lead lives that are richer in every way from having met him; his friends will always remember his sterling qualities and helpfulness and great sense of fun, and many will also follow his good example and be an inspiration to others. Our family was the richer for his presence, uplifted by basking in those wonderful qualities of kindness and gentleness that he possessed and knowing the care and love he shared with his brothers and his friends. His sunny nature blossomed over the years and at the Queen Mary's University he found he could achieve many of his creative and fulfilling lifetime ambitions; for these he will now also be widely remembered. Most of all we shall miss his presence with us so very much, his glowing smile and caring ways and we will never ever forget how much we still love our sparkling Roland. God bless you forever Roland, may He look after you and keep you safe in His tender care till we can all meet again. Fondest love Mum (Bettina) Hi Roland I didn’t realise at the time the significance of the words you signed off with in your final email to me from hospital: “be well” almost as if you were saying goodbye it seems to me now. This was entirely typical of you to think of others before you gave any thought for yourself even though you were so gravely ill. Goodbye dear friend and stepson Much love John
